Upcoming Church & Community Events
July 30-August 12 – Camp Meeting
August 7 – Salem Choir at Camp Meeting
August 18 – Love Denver Festival

We Need You!
Our VBS Servant Squad kids made blessing bags as part of their learning about following Jesus and making a difference in God’s world together. Now we need your help to continue the service work.

Children don’t often go to areas where they see people needing food. Do you see people asking for food in your weekly routine and travels? Then pick up a few bags from the narthex and share them with a smile. We have almost 50 so there are lots to share. And remember… “Serve the Lord with gladness and delight!” Psalm 100:2.

Love Denver Festival is August 18
Love Denver is a back-to-school themed community medical clinic sponsored by multiple area churches with a mission to “meet the spiritual and physical needs of the needy through the Gospel and name of Jesus.” This is done by offering backpacks filled with school supplies, haircuts, medical and dental screenings, prayer stations, food and fun for all at no charge for attendees.
Love Denver will be Saturday, August 18, from 10am-2pm at East Lincoln High School. Salem UMC will be staffing the volunteer support tent and childcare tent for the event. Volunteer support delivers food and water to all the volunteers throughout the event and provides opportunities to work behind the scenes or interact with attendees.
Last year Salem had a great turnout for volunteers. Those that attended were greatly touched by the outpouring of love demonstrated by the Denver community. Please plan to join us on August 18! Sign-up sheets for volunteers and supply needs will be in the mission hall and a Sign-Up Genius link will be distributed by email.
If you have any questions, please see Angela Streur-Lott, Charlie Nartker or Julie France.

A Note from Jerry and Diane Ennis
I am so thankful and grateful for my Salem family. Thank you to all the prayer warriors that have lifted me up to the Lord during my two hospital stays. I know your prayers wee answered and helped me through this tough time. The cards are so beautiful and so very thoughtful. The many visits lifted my spirits when I needed them the most! You are my wonderful family, and Diane and I just wanted to try and tell you how very special you are to us and how very strong we felt because of your love, support and prayers!

You are a very unique, caring and supportive family, and please know how much each one of you are appreciated! I am continuing to heal and look forward to joining you very soon.
Isaiah 41:10 fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God.
Isaiah 40:31 but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.
Blessings in the Lord!
Jerry and Diane Ennis

Wednesday Night Meals Resume in September
Please consider how you can help on Wednesdays and speak to Vickie Good. She needs help in all areas – food prep, cooking, serving, clean up, desserts, etc. Everyone can do something!

Be on the lookout for more information as we get ready to resume this community ministry.

Summer Funtimers Trip
The Funtimers will be traveling to Blowing Rock on August 23 for sightseeing, shopping and lunch at Bob Timberlake’s restaurant. Blowing Rock is located in two counties: Caldwell and Watauga. It becomes a resort town in the summer with the cooler temperatures. We will leave the church at 8:30 am and arrive back home around 4:00 pm. The only expense is the cost of lunch and what you spend on shopping. A sign-up sheet is in the mission hall, and the deadline to sign up is August 19.

Contact Dianne Tannery at 704-827-6965 with any questions.

Backpack Ministry Gearing Up for Another School Year
Once again we are getting ready to fill backpacks for children who receive breakfast and lunch at school during the week. The backpacks provide food to supplement meals over the weekend. Last year, we supplied backpacks for 20 elementary school children and food for some youth at East Lincoln High School. As poverty and hunger continue to be a problem in the area, we anticipate once again responding to this need through our backpack ministry.

On Sunday, August 19, our third-Sunday-of-the-month Change for a Change collection will support the backpack ministry. Also, to help us begin stocking our shelves, please bring PopTarts and place them in the bin in the mission hall.
