Lay Leader News

Hello Salem,

Typically, announcements concerning leadership roles for the local church are made in January. However, I have been prayerfully seeking guidance and direction to fill a vital role in our church, the role of lay leader. When Drew Neil accepted the position of director of youth and young adult ministries, he had to step down as Lay Leader.

It is my pleasure to share with you that Ernie Estep will be our lay leader for Salem United Methodist. Ernie has served as a lay leader in the past, and I am pleased that he has agreed to serve again.

I look forward as together we serve God and you in ministry together.

Thank you,
Rev. Eric Lane, pastor Salem UMC

Church Council Notes

Salem’s church council met on May 11 via ZOOM and the following items were discussed:

– After much prayer and discussions, the council has decided not to continue Salem SAM (Salem’s after-school ministry) this fall. It was a hard decision to stop this ministry, but due to lower enrollment numbers, uncertainly with COVID and other factors we felt this was the best decision at this time. However, the council is committed to engaging our staff and others in the congregation to develop other community school age ministry opportunities. If you have ideas and/or would like to help with this ministry, please reach out to me or Jenny.

– Trustees have replaced the roof on the storage shed, cleaned all the stucco, pressure washed the sidewalks, and performed various inspections around the church. Current projects the trustees are working on include pulling cables to the CLC to continue enhancing the technology platform and painting the steeple.  One upcoming project that the trustees can use help on is cleaning around the playgrounds. The trustees will schedule some dates and times for this work. The more volunteers we have, the faster this work will be done.

Plans are to start Wednesday night dinners in September. If you or several individuals have a passion for planning we could use a coordinator(s) to help schedule these meals. If you are called to help with scheduling reach out to the church office, Pastor Eric or Kelly Parker.

-The Council is starting to identify new ministries for Salem. If you have any ideas please Pastor Eric or any council member know.

As always, Council meetings are open to all church members and we hope to start meeting in person soon.
