Director of Music and Fine Arts

More About Cheryl

Being involved in a musical family and growing up in a Christian home, I also realized I was blessed with the gift of music.  At the age of 16 I became accompanist of the high school chorus and continued after high school as a pianist in my home church.  In February of 1987, as a part-time choir director, I found God’s place for me, eventually leading to my position as Director of Music and Fine Arts.  My position includes directing and accompanying various musical groups and drama ministries as well as coordinating the Audio/Visual minsitry.  I also serve our community as Director/Co-Producer of the East Lincoln Community Chorus. Together my husband Ronnie and I have 5 children and 6 grandchildren.

What I like about Salem: I love watching God find ways to use gifts and talents of church members who may not be aware of their gifts, but my favorite thing about Salem is that it feels like family and home because everyone is accepted no matter what and and loved with the love of Christ.

A few fun facts: I love antiques. I love science fiction movies.  I am a collector of snowmen, Santas, nutcrackers, bells, & Hummel figurines. I make dream catchers along with other crafts. I enjoy watching the Carolina Panthers and, of course, the Purrcussion drumline.  Popcorn is my favorite snack.  Miriam Robinette and I are co-writers of a version of the “Doxology” that is sung at Salem UMC.

Director of Youth & Young Adults

More About Colin

There is much debate on what unusual phenomenon could have spawned a being as strange as Colin. Scientists theorize he may have come from the moon, the center of the earth, or perhaps he is just a figment of our imagination. But what we do know is that you will hear his booming voice before you see him and if he’s not gushing about theology he will probably be talking about his love of Lord of the Rings or theme parks.

But really I’m a guy whose life was radically changed by my encounter with Jesus and because of all the love Jesus has shown to me I have dedicated my life to sharing that love in service of him. I love working with young people and am firmly in denial that I am aging. When I was young I really needed someone to be there for me so I strive to be that person for someone else whenever I can!

I am currently a certified candidate for ordained ministry within the United Methodist Church and am pursuing my Master of Divinity at Asbury Theological Seminary. I am blessed to be a newlywed, married to my best friend and bonafide genius, Becca, who is studying to be a veterinarian at LSU.

What I like about Salem: What I love about Salem is what brought me here in the first place, this church is home to incredible people who truly care about making a difference in their community. We aren’t a church satisfied with staying in our own bubbles but one that truly wants to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

A few fun facts: Before my call to ministry I was planning to become a film director and I still have a deep love of movies. Like most people I want to visit as many countries as I can but I also want to visit as many theme parks throughout the world as I can. Peanut butter is my favorite food and I could live exclusively off of that if I had to. I spend more time on my hair in the morning than my wife. My biggest dream is to be a father one day and to adopt as many orphans as my wife will tolerate.
