Cheryl Barker    Email

Director of Music and Fine Arts

More About Cheryl

Being involved in a musical family and growing up in a Christian home, I also realized I was blessed with the gift of music.  At the age of 16 I became accompanist of the high school chorus and continued after high school as a pianist in my home church.  In February of 1987, as a part-time choir director, I found God’s place for me, eventually leading to my position as Director of Music and Fine Arts.  My position includes directing and accompanying various musical groups and drama ministries as well as coordinating the Audio/Visual minsitry.  I also serve our community as Director/Co-Producer of the East Lincoln Community Chorus. Together my husband Ronnie and I have 5 children and 6 grandchildren.

What I like about Salem: I love watching God find ways to use gifts and talents of church members who may not be aware of their gifts, but my favorite thing about Salem is that it feels like family and home because everyone is accepted no matter what and and loved with the love of Christ.

A few fun facts: I love antiques. I love science fiction movies.  I am a collector of snowmen, Santas, nutcrackers, bells, & Hummel figurines. I make dream catchers along with other crafts. I enjoy watching the Carolina Panthers and, of course, the Purrcussion drumline.  Popcorn is my favorite snack.  Miriam Robinette and I are co-writers of a version of the “Doxology” that is sung at Salem UMC.

Kelly Carter

Worship Leader

More About Kelly

Kelly comes with years of experience in worship leadership and has gifts for both vocal and instrumental music.  A songwriter who recently released her first album and additional recordings, Kelly leads the 11 am modern service.

What I like about Salem: From the first day I stepped foot in Salem UMC it felt like family. Salem is not the building but it’s the people and these people are amazing. They are the hands and feet of Jesus. Most of all I love leading worship at Salem with our talented band.

A few fun facts:  I grew up in rural New York on a dairy farm. I didn’t give my life to Christ until I was 22. I currently live on a mini-farm with 2 horses and chickens. I love gardening and working outside almost as much and I love leading worship.

Drew Neill    Email

Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries

More About Drew

A Charlotte native, Denver has been home since March of 2013 when my wife and I were married at Vesuvius Vineyards. My passion for youth/young adults and outreach ministry comes from the many impactful experiences I had during my college summer breaks from Clemson University (Go Tigers)! Working as a camp director/counselor with Carolina Cross Connection, I witnessed countless times the Holy Spirit working through young people and empowering them to share Jesus with and serve their neighbors. Before joining Salem, I worked with Cokesbury as a Resource Consultant Team Lead.

What I love about Salem: Along with the infectious kindness and generosity of the people of Salem, this church has the heart and mentality of David. Nothing can stand in the way of people of Salem whenever there is a need, a cause or a challenge to support or rally behind.

A few fun facts: I enjoy going to Clemson games, as well as the Panthers and any baseball game around. I also love concerts, hiking, fishing, golf, skiing, a variety of music and anything involving Jerry Seinfeld. All of that pales in comparison to what I love most, spending time with Angie and our three kids.
